Your Assignment

Cuentos of Resistance: The Work of Cherrie Moraga

Your will write an essay that interprets Cherrie Moraga’s play, Watsonville: Some Place Not Here, through analyzing specific characters and integrating research to better understand what the character may signify in the play. You will consider “extra information” that is historical, cultural, social, human behavioral, and/or political and more importantly helps you to better understand what Moraga is exploring through this character. Each group member will analyze a different character but you will then work together as a group to formulate a cohesive thesis and interpretation based on your analysis of the chosen characters.

EACH group member is required to find THREE different sources through research that will then be integrated into the essay. The point of the research is to get a better understanding of the character you are analyzing and what they may be responding to in terms of the social issues being raised in the play. Consider the following types of sources. Be mindful of what the best sources are for the types of information you need to find for your section of the project. Try to practice finding different types of sources so that your research considers such a variety of information.
