Essay 2 - Questioning Normalized Culture
You will write an 8-10 page research paper in which you analyze ONE of the poems listed below. You will apply key concepts from any of the secondary sources listed below to provide some sort of theoretical context for your discussion. You will also research relevant historical, cultural, social, and/or political information that seems relevant to help develop your analysis even more. The key question you are attempting to answer is: How does the poem question “normalized culture”?
- ONE primary source (see list of poems below)
- ONE secondary source we read (see list below)
- FOUR credible secondary sources written by scholars or journalists that offer information that helps you to dig deeper into the social, political, and cultural context that the poet may be addressing in the poem (only ONE of these sources can be material found solely on the internet (i.e. websites or web based news media).
