Your Assignment

Purpose

This project invites you to explore through research how "monsters" are created, depicted, and deployed in U.S. society, especially as they relate to people of color broadly and Chicano/e people specifically.

Task

Compose a thesis-driven research project based on a critical question about either Zoot Suit or Chicano Frankenstein. Your research question should be based on one of the research questions in your assignment instructions questions (and on the Topics & Research Questions page of this guide).

Required Sources

Option 1 - Group Critical Research Paper

  • At least seven relevant and credible sources (10 max)
  • Include at least one source the professor mentioned in class
  • Include at least four scholarly sources from peer-reviewed academic journals or chapters of academic/scholarly books
  • Other acceptable sources include credible magazines, news sites, documentaries, interviews, TED Talks, websites, etc.

Option 2 - Group Creative Research Project

  • At least five relevant and credible sources (7 max)
  • Include at least one source the professor mentioned in class
  • Include at least two scholarly sources from peer-reviewed academic journals or chapters of academic/scholarly books
  • Other acceptable sources include credible magazines, news sites, documentaries, interviews, TED Talks, websites, etc.

OptIon 3 - Individual Oral Discussion Research Project

  • At least five relevant and credible sources
  • Include at least three peer-reviewed, scholarly sources
