Newspapers @ Luria Library

Luria Library provides online access to a large variety of newspapers through several databases and other subscriptions. See below for information and links to the most requested newspapers.

New York Times - Full Web and News Access

 

The Luria Library subscription allows all students, staff, and faculty full access to the New York Times website, where you can find breaking news, past features, and more. 

You are required to register and set up a free account through the library subscription in order to access the website. 

Here are the steps for registering and setting up an account:

If you are registering while you are on campus:

  1. Go to accessnyt.com
  2. Find and select "Santa Barbara City College" in the "Find School" drop down menu
  3. Find the "On Campus click here", and click "here"
  4. Follow the instructions:
    1. You will be required to indicate whether you are a student or a faculty/staff member. For students, you will be required to enter your expected graduation/transfer date, and an alternate email address.
    2. Select "Get Started"
      • Note: If you have previously registered your email address on The New York Times site, you will click the "Already have an account?" "Log in here" link (below the "Create Account" button). Existing paid New York Times subscribers must cancel their paid subscription before authenticating via the school funded program.

If you are registering from off campus:

  1. Make sure you are signed in to Pipeline in your browser
  2. Go to accessnyt.com
  3. Find and select "Santa Barbara City College" in the "Find School" drop down menu
  4. Select the blue "Go" button
  5. Create an NYT account
  6. You will be required to indicate whether you are a student or a faculty/staff member. For students, you will be required to enter your expected graduation/transfer date, and an alternate email address.
    • Note: If you have previously registered your email address on The New York Times site, you will click the "Already have an account?" "Log in here" link (below the "Create Account" button). Existing paid New York Times subscribers must cancel their paid subscription before authenticating via the school funded program.

For ongoing access, once you have activated your account:

Simply go to nytimes.com and log in via the "Log In" button, using your SBCC Pipeline email address and your chosen password. You may wish to bookmark the link for future use.

US Newsstream Database - Popular Newspapers

The Luria Library offers access to many newspapers through the US Newsstream Database, including the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

You can also search for articles on a variety of topics across all newspapers offered in the database by using the database search feature.

Nexis Uni - U.S. and International News Sources

The Nexis Uni database can be used to search for topics covered in international news sources:

  1. Type your search term in the search box on the Nexis Uni homepage
  2. Select "Newspaper" from the drop down menu next to your search terms
  3. Click the search button
  4. From the results screen, use the filters menu to select "Sources" and scan through the options to find and select the international newspapers you are interested in
