This project will explore research designs and get you thinking about the process of doing fieldwork, the kinds of research questions you might ask, and the kinds of information you might need to answer your questions.

Part 1: 

You will create a research design for ONE area of the world at ONE point in time. For this part of the assignment you will:

• Select an area/culture and time period from the past you are interested in
• Identify the physiographic and biotic characteristics of the region for this area/culture
• Identify the cultural setting of the area you selected
• Include a list of the sources you consulted (scholarly books and articles)

Part 2

You will continue to create a research design for one area of the world at one point in time. For this part of the assignment you will:

• Identify methods of survey and excavation
• Identify methods of lab work and data collection
• Identify methods and theory concerning dating methods
• Identify methods of interpreting archaeological data
• Include a list of the sources you consulted (scholarly books and articles)
