Your Assignment

Research Project

You will write a 1500-2500 word problem/solution research paper on any current social or environmental issue (local, national, global) that concerns you. In your paper, you will describe the scope of the problem, explain its cause and the consequences of it, and explain some solutions to the problem.

Topic & Research Question

The topic should be something that interests or concerns you. Your research question should be something you can draw on a range of sources for, and something you can develop an argument around, not just simply present other people’s ideas.

Sources

You will use a minimum of five sources, three of which must be scholarly (see your assignment instructions or contact your instructor for specific types of acceptable scholarly sources). Other source options include articles, videos, interviews, websites, and English 110 Online course readings and videos.

Timeline

  • Wk 12: Prewrite about possible topics. Do background research to learn the basics about your issue.
  • Wk 12-14 Consult a librarian. Narrow your topic, do library research, and bookmark possible sources.
  • Wk 13-15: Turn in an informal annotated bibliography, describing at least 2 good sources you’ve found.
  • Wk 15 Fri. Submit 1500 - 2500 word problem/solution research paper including 5 sources to Canvas/Turnitin
